How to do it
1
Open the invoice
Choose Credit under Actions.
2
Review the lines
The lines from the invoice are filled in. To credit the whole invoice, leave them as they are. To credit only part of it, change the quantity or price, or remove lines.
3
Send
Choose Send credit note. The credit note is created and sent by email to the customer.
What happens
- The credit note gets its own number in a separate series, for example CN-0001.
- The original invoice gets the status Credited, also when only part of it is credited.
- If you credit a project invoice in full, the hours and materials are released, so they can be invoiced again from the project.
- On the invoice you see a link to the credit note, and on the credit note a link to the original invoice.
- Reminders stop for the invoice.
- If accounting is turned on, the credit note is posted automatically.
Good to know
- An invoice can be credited in several rounds, up to the invoice amount in total. Credit is shown until the whole invoice has been credited.
- The credit note is not saved as a draft. It is sent when you choose Send credit note.
- If the customer has no email address, the credit note is still created. Download the PDF and send it yourself.
- You can download the credit note as a PDF, and as EHF when the customer is a company in Norway with an organisation number.
The Norwegian Bookkeeping Regulations (bokføringsforskriften) § 5-2-7 say that a credit note must be issued when a new sales document replaces one that has already been sent.
